CHRISTINA MATTHEWS hails
originally from London, where she starred in various musical productions
including WEST SIDE STORY (Maria), SALAD DAYS (Jane), MR. CINDERS (Jill Kemp) and 42nd STREET (Dorothy Brock).
Coming from a family of singers and musicians, she began singing
in her church choir as a child, before learning to play guitar and forming a
teenage vocal trio with her sister and a school friend. Christina is a graduate of Oxford University and first appeared professionally in Victorian Music Hall at the Players(TM) Theatre in London, where the theater critics proclaimed that she "sings like an angel". She has worked in film,
television, radio, cabaret and commercials, but her greatest love has always
been live theater.
Her performing career has
taken her all round the world, including six years on cruise ships as far
afield as China, Japan, Tahiti and Australia. She toured Europe, Canada and the U.S. with the ABA DABA
MUSIC HALL, South Africa with THE MAGIC SHOW, and the Middle East with THE REAL
THING. She currently lives in Miami.
Some of her favorite roles have been Guinevere in CAMELOT, Sally Bowles in CABARET, Ruth in Noel Coward's BLITHE SPIRIT, Sarah in GUYS AND DOLLS, Dottie in Tom Stoppard's JUMPERS, Gertrude Lawrence in NOEL AND GERTIE, SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM and the title role in Jane Austen's EMMA.
Christina also writes both songs and scripts, specializing in translating popular songs from other languages into "singable" English versions.
She is known for her love of
working with children, and she likes a challenge: she once produced a charity
performance in London with a cast of over 200 and a 27-piece orchestra! Her ambition is to bring a genuine
traditional British Pantomime to Miami.
